Retour à Séville - Back to Sevilla

En refaisant un tour de ville en bus, en compagnie d'un ami montréalais, nous sommes allés visiter dans un ancien monastère converti en musée d'art contemporain. La collection n'était pas extraordinaire mais l'intérêt historique, si, car c'est dans la bibliothèque de cet ancien monastère que Christophe Colomb avait fait ses recherches et préparé son voyage vers l'Amérique. Il ne reste évidemment rien de la bibliothèque ni des documents, sinon des murs anciens présentant des restes de fresques sur lesquelles les yeux du découvreur se sont sûrement posés.

Quant aux oeuvres exposées, nous nous sommes demandé si elles traverseraient les siècles aussi bien que celles des siècles passés.

Les jours passent doucement et la pluie obligent les touristes à faire des visites d'édifices. C'est ainsi que je suis retournée à l'Alcazar, l'antique palais royal de Séville. Demain, avec une prévision de soleil sans nuage, excursion à Grenade et visite de l'Alhambra.

Redoing a guided bus tour of Sevilla, with a Montreal friend who has joined me for my last weeks in Spain, we visited a old monastery converted into a museum of contemporary art. The collection has nothing extraordinary, but the historical aspect of the site was, as it is there that Christopher Columbus did his research and preparation of his journey to America. There is nothing left of the library where he worked, nor any documents, but for the ancient walls still showing parts of frescoes at which the eyes of the discoverer certainly gazed.

As for the the artwork, we wondered if the pieces shown would cross the centuries in the same way as those of the past ones.

Days are slowly passing and rain is now forcing tourist inside historical building. So, with my guest,  I went back to the Alcazar, the antique King's Palace. Tomorrow, with a forecast of sunny weather, excursion to Grenada and visit of the Alhambra.

Trois jours à Madrid - Three days in Madrid

I left Sevilla early in the morning to make the 8:45 train to Madrid (2.5 hours). These fast trains are impressive! The weather is still beautiful. My list of things to do is getting shorter and shorter. Here it is like spring and the city workers are busy planting flowers in the parks. Wish it were the same at home.

J'ai quitté Séville tôt le matin pour attraper le train de 8 h 45 vers Madrid, à 2 heures et demie d'ici. Ces TGV sont super! La température est toujours délicieuse et ma liste de choses à faire et à voir raccourcit. Ici, c'est le printemps et les ouvriers de la ville sont en train de planter des fleurs dans les espaces publics. Ah! Si c'était la même chose à Montréal!

The Palacio Real is no longer the residence of the king but serves for official functions. Photos are forbidden inside. Such vast wealth, it seems too much! Given the financial state of Spain, they could sell a few pieces to pay back their deficit and feed the beggars at the door of the ticket office.

Le Palacio Real qui n'est plus la résidence du roi mais sert au fonctions officielles. Photos interdites à l'intérieur. On se noie dans les richesses ostentatoires des lieux. Si l'Espagne vendait quelques oeuvres, elle pourrait régler son deficit et nourrir les pauvres qui mendient à la porte de la billetterie.
