The last weeks went by at great speed and I was ready to go home. Now, my walks always took me to places I knew and newness had disappeared. I felt I had seen it all, or almost.
*
I had discovered a small bodega selling Mendosa products, specially wines in promotion, at 22 pesos for 2 bottles, and delicious. This store is located on Riobamba Street, near Avenue Mitre. They were also selling olives and olive oils.

On Florida Street, I was walking again in front of the Harrods building (the only other one in the world, after London, England) and which was shut down on 1998, during the great economic problems that are still affecting the country. The re-opening is planned for 2014, but I am doubtful. It will take a lot of time for Buenos Aires to become again one of the richest cities in the world.

A manifestation in memory of the veterans. When I saw The Iron Lady movie and heard Margaret-Meryl Tatcher say : "The Falklands belong to us and I want them back", I thought that there would be a few political eruptions and there were with several daily articles in the papers, president Christina Fernandez de Kirchner advocating that these islands belonged to Argentina.

Time went by even faster with the arrival of my Australian friend Mai-Lin, the great traveller whose photo albums are published in the pages of the site TheWorldSolo.com. We flew to Iguazu to see the Falls... and semi-precious stones found in abundance in Argentina.

The guide says : "Victoria Falls, Niagara Falls and Iguazu Falls are all said to be the biggest in the world. But which ones are? Here it is : Victoria Falls are the highest, Niagara Falls see the largest quantity of water pouring down, and Iguazu Falls are the widest. They all are the biggest for one reason or another."

Back to Buenos Aires, I took my friend to the Evita Museum, a must for all visitors, and a very moving experience.

A last walk in the Japanese Garden and a delicious lunch of authentic Japanese cuisine in the restaurant seen here, at the centre of the photo. I spent the last few days strolling in the neighborhood, stopping in my favorite cafés for a pause. I arrived home on March 20th, 2012 and did not leave my heart in Buenos Aires.
I did enjoy spending the Canadian winter in the warm sunshine and speaking Spanish daily, but the generally poor cooking of the restaurants, the charred meats in the parillas, the abuse of tourists by market vendors and taxi drivers often cooled me off. Buenos Aires, the Paris of South America? Maybe by its urbanism and beautiful old buildings. The comparison stops there.
